My name is Eric. I am a certified and licensed Athletic Trainer (ATC, LAT) in the state of Georgia. I am currently Graduate Assistant working toward my Masters while focusing on biomechanical measures of head impacts in football players. I LOVE to fish, hike and do anything outdoors. Now, I mostly fly fish, but am not one of those "fly fishing purists." I grew up with a spinning rod and reel so I occasionally still head out with my tackle, catch minnows in a cast net, and clean up! I have recently become intrigued with the art of tenkara. It is all extremely simple, yet very effective.
I have been fishing my whole life and got the bug from my grandparents. Back in the day, they lived on a lake system in northern Wisconsin. My family would go on vacations to visit them in the summers. My older brother and I would fish all day around their property only stopping to eat and sleep. We caught countless fish in those days while using a spinning rod and reel. Every few days or so we would get to go out on "The Big Boat" which was a simple pontoon boat. We called it such since it was bigger than the aluminum rowboat they also had. We caught everything from largemouth and panfish to northern pike and walleye.
I lived in Ohio from 1999 until 2013. I targeted smallmouth in the creeks. Where I lived, there are the occasional lunkers. The majority are decent to average sized, but plentiful. They are a blast to wrangle on my 5 and 6 weight rods. The creek I frequented always seemed to throw a curveball at me every trip. My brother and I have caught gar and channel cats, had black racer snakes charge at us, and found the weirdest things.
That's a short story of my life. There are many other stories from the past, but also much more to come!
